Our story
HSMG® was born out of the shared vision to reduce the dependence on plastics and plastic-coated paper products.
The mission eventually expanded to include finding all-encompassing alternatives for silicone and fluorochemical treated paper-products.
Our inspiration came from identifying our global dependence on convenient plastic-coated paper products and food service items with fluorochemical treated packaging.
This trend is only worsened by the fact that much of the waste that consumers produce cannot be recycled and will continue to bioaccumulate. Many companies have already taken notice and introduced compostable packaging solutions, such as bioplastics, but these items require special high-temperature composting facilities that are not geographically convenient.

Through years of independent research and development, the team created PROTĒAN®, an environmentally friendly and non-toxic barrier coating and additive technology platform that would deliver the critical water, oil and grease resistance properties.
With our in-house experts, patent and IP development experience, the team identified a viable alternative they knew would be the first of its kind. The team was successfully able to meet the demands of manufacturers, environmental groups and consumers through the introduction of its eco-friendly PROTĒAN, a plant-based derivative.
As the patented technology is FDA-approved for food contact, the team felt confident proposing this platform technology to further replace the fossil fuel based legacy technologies still used in paper-based packaging today.
Furthermore, paper-based applications made with PROTĒAN have several end of life options as materials can be recycled and remain biodegradable.

Through several successful pilot and commercial trials, we are taking our proprietary solutions to the global market and delivering organic options to combat the problem caused by plastic coatings and other harmful legacy chemicals.
We continue to partner with global paper packaging and chemical formulation companies. These companies work exclusively with our USA based entity, HSMG LLC, for research and development projects that prioritize the proprietary chemicals formulations and procurement of bio-based materials.
We continue to promote the advancement and deployment of environmentally sustainable materials and practices worldwide including the replacement of fossil-based technologies and harmful PFAS in paper products.
